Gippsland Tourism Industry Leadership Program
The Program
The Gippsland Tourism Industry Leadership Program is the first of its type in Australia. It has been funded with support from the State Government through the Provincial Victoria Growth Fund Regional Leadership Initiative Program and significant corporate sponsorship from Telstra Country Wide, Gippsland Tourism and the tourism industry. The program is being auspiced by the Baw Baw Shire on behalf of the Gippsland Local Government Network.
2007 was the inaugural program and 24 industry leaders graduated in October 2007 after a positive and challenging year. The 2008 Program was launched on Wednesday 13 February 2008 in Traralgon and marks the beginning of an exciting year for another 23 industry leaders selected from across Gippsland. The program is designed to help these operators with vision, passion and drive to provide ongoing leadership for the industry in the region.
The broad goals of the program include:
- 1. Developing leadership relating to the tourism industry
- 2. Building individual leadership skills
- 3. Building leadership networks
- 4. Strengthening leadership capability within the industry
- 5. Development of a peak body in Gippsland
The program has six full day workshops including opening and closing two day residentials. Each program will be run in different locations throughout Gippsland and have distinct themes.
The Participants
The 23 participants in the Gippsland Tourism Industry Leadership Program come from across the region and represent accommodation, arts & culture, destination attractions, adventure tourism, the wine industry, the food and restaurant industry and the tourism & consultancy sector.
