Hot press - New Peak Body for Gippsland Tourism Sector

The Gippsland Tourism sector has undergone a transformation in the last two years. The industry is united and working in partnership with Local Government, Parks Victoria and Tourism Victoria.

The need for a peak industry body for the Gippsland tourism industry has been acknowledged in the Gippsland Sustainable Tourism Project and at Gippsland Tourism Open Space Summit 2007. It is also one of the founding objectives of the highly successful Gippsland Tourism Industry Leadership Program.

Destination Gippsland Ltd has been formed to provide a sustainable platform for the development of tourism in the region. The Interim board of Glenn Patterson, Lyndon Webb, Chris Rose and Ken Hore are leading the recruitment of the new Chairperson and CEO.

As soon as this process is complete, a skills based board of directors will be appointed. Destination Gippsland Ltd will help drive the development of tourism in Gippsland by leading industry strategy and pursuing infrastructure, marketing and relationship development on behalf of members, stakeholders and the community.

Destination Gippsland Inc, which is the campaign committee for Gippsland, will become a subcommittee of the new entity. The functions undertaken through Gippsland Tourism will also be be picked up by Destination Gippsland Ltd.
