Today Show visits Gippsland
|
 |
|
Two of Gippsland’s scenic gems were showcased to a national audience last week with live weather crosses presented by the breakfast television program, Today. Twelve weather crosses were filmed live from two location across two days to a national audience of approximately one million. Filming took place at Tidal River, Wilsons Promontory on Thursday 16 February and Bullant Brewery, Bruthen on Friday 17 February.
The weather crosses highlighted the premium nature-based experiences that the region offers, with the program’s host Steve Jacobs taking part in surfing and kayaking at Wilsons Promontory, indulging in fine regional produce, watching the brewing process at Bullant Brewery and peddling off across the East Gippsland Rail Trail.
Locals, visitors and school groups rallied at the filming locations to support the activity, drawing approximately 100 people at Tidal River and almost 200 at Bruthen. The weather crosses were organised by Destination Gippsland in conjunction with Tourism Victoria, local government and the regional tourism bodies. |

Gippsland Tourism Audits
Town and Business Audits to begin this month This month marks the beginning of the Gippsland Tourism Business Audits and Gippsland Town Audits which will run until the end of June. As part of the process businesses and towns will be "mystery shopped" by an independent third party.
|
| The purpose of the audit is to independently and objectively measure, track and assess the actual customer experience being delivered in our region, providing an honest snapshot of how we are performing against other Victorian regions. Business audits are conducted in the following categories: Accommodation, Restaurants/ Cafes, Attractions, Retail, Winery and tasting experiences.
This year 12 Town audits and 36 business audits will be conducted. All participating businesses will receive an extensive report including scoring for day-to-day operations, first impressions, presentation, quality of the overall experience and the likelihood of return visitation and recommendation to others.

We encourage all tourism businesses in Gippsland to be listed on the site to take advantage of the many benefits of a listing and reach over 30,000 customers per month. It is also essential for a business to have a listing to be included in our marketing and public relations activities.
Setting up a business listing is simple and requires a login which we create and supply to you. Then simply follow a step by step wizard which will assist you with adding your information, images, descriptions, facilities, rates, videos and interactive maps that can be updated at any time.
From as little as $200 you can list your business for one year, support your local industry and take advantage of many PR and marketing opportunities in our seasonal marketing campaigns.

Winter Marketing Campaign
How your business can get involved
Winter may seem like a long way off, but in marketing and public relations time it is just around the corner so it’s time to think about how you will market your business over the colder months. This winter the campaign will focus on Gippsland’s alpine and sub-alpine experiences.
|
|
Attractions and destinations such as Mt Baw Baw Alpine Resort, the Great Alpine Road and Baw Baw Shire Council will feature prominently. Businesses in these areas are encouraged to be a part of this campaign and can do so by following these steps:
1. Start by either creating a listing on inspiredbygippsland.com.au or updating your listing if you already have one. Include up to date images, information and elements such as TripAdvisor reviews and YouTube videos. Please note, to be part of our marketing and public relations activities it is essential that your business has a listing
2. Create a Web Deal. Many businesses use the winter period as a chance to offer ‘winter warmer’ deals and packages to entice customers to visit during this time. To promote these deals, we offer Web Deals, which sit on Victoria’s most visited website visitvictoria.com.au. for up to three months. The Deals and Packages page receives 280,000 views per year
3. Share your Web Deal with over 23,000 customers. Another excellent opportunity to take advantage of is including your Web Deal in the Tourism Victoria eNewsletter which is sent out to a database of over 23,000 customers.

Business Events Victoria
Be part of the 2012/13 Regional Victoria Planner’s Guide Business Events Victoria (BEV) is a growing, membership-based group that has been operating since 1996. BEV's aim is to grow regional Victoria’s share of the meetings, conference and events market by working collaboratively to demonstrate the quality and diversity of conference venues, services and settings in regional Victoria.
|

BEV is calling on regional conference venue operators and support services to join BEV and advertise in the 2012/13 Regional Victoria Planner’s Guide. The guide showcases conference and meeting venues in Regional Victoria and is distributed to key event organisers, at event trade shows and through BEV’s sales activities. Organisations must be a member of BEV to qualify.

Informing travellers about bushfire safety
Tourism Victoria has recently released a new suite of free materials available to tourism businesses and accommodation booking agencies to inform travellers about bushfire safety. These materials have been developed in conjunction with the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and can now be ordered online.
|
Research conducted by Sweeney Research in October 2011 found that despite an increase in bushfire safety awareness since the 2009 bushfires, more visitor education is needed.
Tourism businesses and accommodation booking agencies can order a kit which includes a supply of brochures, fridge magnets, key tags, Township Protection Plans and a Fire Danger Rating display.
