Gippsland Sustainable Tourism Project

In one of the most significant strategic tourism initiatives ever undertaken in Gippsland, the six Shire Councils of South Gippsland, Bass Coast,  Wellington, Baw Baw, Latrobe City and East Gippsland, along with Destination Gippsland Inc and Tourism Victoria joined together to further develop a sustainable tourism industry in Gippsland.

The partnership project titled ‘Building Sustainable Tourism in Gippsland’ was funded under the Federal Government’s Sustainable Regions Programme. The project was a whole of Gippsland approach aimed at building a sustainable tourism industry that will benefit a broad range of Gippsland businesses by gathering quality local research, developing tourism business networks and business opportunities and developing a touring route concept to provide a focus for unified marketing across the region.

The Project was completed in mid 2007 and the findings launched at the Grand Ridge Brewery in Mirboo North by Russell Broadbent MP on 15 October 2007.  The final reports are available below in PDF format for you to download as required.  A limited number of CDs with the final reports were also produced for those who have difficulty downloading and can be obtained by emailing Gippsland Tourism at jennybr@wellington.vic.gov.au.

A number of initiatives including Gippsland Tourism Week, have resulted from this project and will be rolling out over the next 8-10 months as part of the implementation phase.  For further information on these activities keep an eye on this site.
